Offer 1 with catalog number 1021059ANR for all students in the 2nd semester at a (A) Bachelor - preliminary level.
This is a language course, geared to an academic setting. The focus lies in particular upon developing the receptive skills (reading, listening) needed to follow a university-level course taught in English/French. However the course also involves remedial grammar work.
Attendance in class is compulsary for this course, for the students of the categories (2), (3) and (4).
This course aims to help students to further develop both their communicative ability and their general proficiency in English/French. The focus is on developing the skills needed to perform well in English/French in an academic context, with particular attention paid to reading more complex texts. By the end of the course, students should be able to follow more complex argumentation in written and spoken English/French.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
(1) During the first semester, students will be tested for their French and English language skills (level B2), by means of two online tests. The marks attributed will be "pass" or "fail" (no figure). Students who pass for both languages immediately receive a pass mark for the course.
(2) Those who do not pass one of both tests, must follow the language course of the language they failed and take the exam at the end, again receiving a "pass" or "fail" mark. ACTO lecturers will decide to which course group the students concerned are allocated.
(3) Students who fail both languages must take the French course. ACTO lecturers will decide to which course group the students concerned are allocated.
(4) Students who have not had French courses in high school are allowed to take the level B1 test for French. It is up to the student to transmit the evidence (including their basic degree) to the ACTO lecturer in order to obtain this derogation.
(5) For the students of the categories (2), (3) and (4), the final course grade is based on continuous assessment (100%). Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of classes.
(6) In the second examination period, assessment for this course is based on a written exam only (100%).
