Course Content

Students translate texts on various cultural subjects (national institutions, cultural history, customs, traditions, arts, music, media, literature) from the Dutch into German and vice versa. Each type of text has its own specific properties. Students learn to use reference materials and the internet effectively to produce accurate and idiomatic translations. They must be able to justify their terminological choices on the basis of valid secondary sources, contexts, or definitions, and produce their own reference files with relevant sources. Students learn various ways to assess translations critically themselves. The course presents students with 'new' translation problems and asks them to put forward their own solution to these problems.
