Course Content

The internship mainly focuses on preparing students for their professional career. Through the internship, the student develops and acquires both academic and professional competences. The internship preparation, the internship itself and the portfolio stimulate the student to consciously think about their own development. This promotes self-knowlegde and critical thinking skills.

The student looks for a suitable organisation where an independent 'agogisch' project/trajectory is set up/carried out. The duration of the internship is 480 hours.

Additional info

More information about the internship can be found in the internship guidelines on Canvas. This information is also provided during a WPO in the academic year prior to the internship.

The internship portfolio may - on request of the student and with approval of the internship VUB coach - be written in a language other than Dutch.

If the student is working in the professional field of the ‘agoog', they may carry out the internship within the organisation where they are employed, on the condition that the internship is performed outside the normal range of tasks and working hours of the professional activity. The suitability of the organisation and the modalities under which the internship would be carried out must be assessed and approved in advance by the titular holder. In addition, the organisation concerned must agree to provide the necessary guidance.

Learning Outcomes

Algemene competenties

The student acquires at least the following competences:

  • The student can analyse and describe in their own words the functioning of the organisation/sector in which the internship takes place;
  • The student has insight into their own performance and can reflect on it;
  • The student develops competences required to perform the profession, linked to the learning results of the program;
  • The student subjects theory to practice and is able to clarify this.

This course contributes to the learning results of the program as described in the internship guidelines.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
SELF Internship determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the SELF Internship category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Internship with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Internship (480 hours), final portfolio, mid-term and final evaluation form, and final evaluation conversation with a weighting factor of 100 and thus 100% of the total final grade. The student takes part in all assignment categories to be able to receive an overall assessment.

Additional info regarding evaluation

The student is required to meet the following deadlines:

  • at the latest on 22 October, meeting with the internship VUB coach;
  • before the start of the internship and at the latest on 31 October, signed documents;
  • submission of evaluation forms (mid-term and final) from the local internship supervisor to the internship VUB coach;
  • by May 10, completed 480 hours of internship;
  • 1 month after the internship, submission of the final portfolio to the internship VUB coach.

The portfolio must be submitted to the internship VUB coach at the latest one month after the last active internship day (mentioned in the internship agreement). Submitting the portfolio after this deadline or not submitting the portfolio and the evaluation forms, or performing less than the 480 hours of internship will result in 'an absent' as result code during the first examination period. The student will automatically be referred to the second examination period. The deadline for submitting the portfolio in the second examination period is 19 August.

The internship itself (480 hours) cannot be retaken in the second examination period. Only in exceptional cases, and with the explicit permission of the internship VUB coach, it is possible to perform internship hours after the deadline of the first examination period.

For more information see internship guidelines.
