Course Content

1) A number of general texts are translated in class from Dutch into German, originating from Dutch/Belgian newspapers and magazines. Secundarily, there will also be translated from German into Dutch. The translations are prepared by the students and discussed in class.

2) During the classes, students will also perform listening and oral exercises (some examples are paraphrasing, translating instantaneously from the page, preparing an oral summary of a text, public speaking) as a preparation for and in support of written translation activities.

3) The students individually and independently study a number of aspects of Dutch-German interference on the basis of digital course material, which will be discussed in class.

The student prepares the translations and other exercices at home, which are then discussed in class.

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Schriftelijk Examen with a relative weight of 10 which comprises 100% of the final mark.
