Course Content

Two central questions guide this course: what is history? And how do we write history in 2020? In the lessons we will explore how historians have responded to these questions from the 1970s to today. We will consider how new historical approaches emerge, and how each of these approaches sheds light on new dimensions of the past. In addition, we will explore a range of central issues in the theory of history, such as historical truth, fact and interpretation, agency/structure and objectivity/subjectivity.
