Inhoud
The goal is to bring the student in contact with the actual industrial or social
environment where the knowledge being acquired will be applied. Drawing the attention
to different aspects of the environment that escape the traditional education methods.
Stimulating a critical reflection on his/her studies of biomedical engineering.

Student operates minimum 4 weeks in a company or hospital (national or international).

 

The elective course “Internship in biomedical engineering” of the Master of Science of Biomedical Engineering is considered as a year course.

 

One can only register in MA2 for the elective course “Internship in Biomedical Engineering”. One needs to respect the registration conditions for the courses of semester 1 of MA2.

 

However, for the execution of the internship two different scenarios are possible

 

  1. Execution of the internship during the summer period between MA1 and MA2

 

The student who wants to register for this elective course in MA2, has the option to execute the  internship during the summer period between MA1 and MA2.  The submission of the final report, the evaluation report of the external supervisor and the final evaluation (in the format of a presentation) need to be finished before the end of the examination period in which one wants to graduate.

 

  1. Execution of the internship during the academic year of MA2.

 

The internship can be executed during the academic year or during the holiday periods, but not overlapping with the course scheduling. The submission of the final report, the evaluation report of the external supervisor and the final evaluation (in the format of a presentation) need to be finished before the end of the examination period in which one wants to graduate.

 

 

STEPS OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE

 

Step 1: Application form : deadline: at least one month before the start of the internship)

Step 2: Internship Agreement deadline: at least two weeks before the start of the internship)

Step 3: Evaluation document: to be filled in by the external supervisor at the end of the internship

Step 4: Uploading of the internship report : by the student

• Dispose of sufficient ready information an understanding to check complex calculations and make first order estimations.

• Pay attention to the cradle-to-grave aspects of systems, machines, processes.

• Pay attention to aspects of energy efficiency, environmental impact, and material consumption and personnel costt.

• Pay attention to aspects of reliability, safety, and ergonomy.

• Having insight in and understand the importance of the role of entrepreneurs in society

Beoordelingsinformatie

De beoordeling bestaat uit volgende opdrachtcategorieën:
WPO Presentatie bepaalt 20% van het eindcijfer

WPO Stage bepaalt 60% van het eindcijfer

WPO Verslag bepaalt 20% van het eindcijfer

Binnen de categorie WPO Presentatie dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Internship presentation met een wegingsfactor 1 en aldus 20% van het totale eindcijfer.

Binnen de categorie WPO Stage dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Internship @ company met een wegingsfactor 1 en aldus 60% van het totale eindcijfer.

Binnen de categorie WPO Verslag dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Internship report met een wegingsfactor 1 en aldus 20% van het totale eindcijfer.
