- Course Content
In this course, students are acquired qualitative and quantitative research design, the difference between both, their possibilities and limitations. The content is seen in lectures and seminars:
- The research problem and objective
- Development of research question
- Operationalization of the research
- Quantitative and qualitative research designs
- The sample of the selection of the research units
- Development of questionnaires and assessment of methodological quality
- Data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, focus groups, questionnaires, case studies
- Quality criteria including validity and reliability for both quantitative and qualitative research
- Ethical aspects of conducting research

- The students can explain the principles of scientific criminological research and evaluation;
- The students can list the different steps of the research cycle and explain;
- The students can list the main concepts and principles of the methods and techniques of criminological research;
- The students can formulate a research problem, aim and question (see Problem Formulation) about a criminological relevant research topic;
- The students can link a problem formulation to a self-fledged proposal for a feasible research design (see study design);
- The students can construct anoral reflection on the advantages and disadvantages of a research design, according to the stated problem, question and objectives;
- The students are able to reflect critical on the established research tools and data collection;
- The students establish a scientific, critical and ethical attitude to the day.
