The course is approached from the perspective of international law, but because human rights are relevant to everyone, a wide audience of students can enroll for the course. The following points are addressed during the lectures:
The Council of Europe
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
The European Union
The course is taught in the form of weekly lectures. If it is necessary, as a consequence of Corona, to limit the number of lecture hours, the course will be taught in an online form with the use of more blended learning.
Additional reading material can be distributed via Canvas. Mandatory literature closely related to the lectures and/or guest lectures may also be distributed via Canvas.
Students are required to take their own class notes.
All lectures are recorded and made available to all students (including students from the regular program) via Canvas platform. In addition, a limited number of lectures (6 hours) are provided for the students of the evening program. In these lectures the opportunity is given to ask questions on the content of the lectures and a number of practical cases as solved.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 30% of the final mark.
SELF Paper determines 70% of the final mark.

The course is assessed on the basis of a written assignment (3000-4000 words) and an oral exam. The written assignment consists of writing an advisory opinion, judgment or policy paper based on a fictitious case. The written assignment is submitted before the exam session.
During the oral exam, the written assignment is discussed and questions are asked on what has been addressed during the lectures.
The written assignment is evaluated on 14 out of the total of 20 points and the oral exam on 6 out of 20.
