This course offers a historical overview of the major movements in European literature. It studies literary developments in their socio-cultural context and highlights the main genres and authors for each movement. By studying representative examples, students gain insight into the different movements, their interrelations and developments. The course thus provides a literary-historical framework that serves as a basis for subsequent literary courses.
